Corporations based around the globe test and grow GMO seeds in Hawaii, which can be grown year-round in the islands\u2019 tropical climate, before shipping them to places like Iowa to sell to U.S. farmers and across the globe, according to\u00a0Towers. Earlier this month, a jury awarded 15 residents $500,000 in damages\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/ecowatch.com\/2015\/05\/26\/dupont-pioneer-guilty-pesticide-contamination\/\" target=\"_blank\">for pesticide contamination from the biotech company\u00a0DuPont-Pioneer<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Young\u2019s new song is part of his upcoming album \u201cThe Monsanto Years,\u201d due out June 29. Young has been a food advocate for years. He\u2019s the co-founder of Farm Aid, and when it came to light that Starbucks was\u00a0supporting\u00a0Monsanto in fighting Vermont\u2019s GMO labeling law last fall, Young\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/ecowatch.com\/2014\/11\/18\/neil-young-boycotts-starbucks-gmo-labeling\/\" target=\"_blank\">publicly declared he would be boycotting Starbucks<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Starbucks says it has been wrongly accused of supporting the lawsuit, and the Grocery Manufacturers\u2019 Association, which brought the lawsuit, has said neither Starbucks nor Monsanto is participating in the lawsuit,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/2014\/11\/17\/starbucks-gmo-idUSL2N0T72NQ20141117\" target=\"_blank\">according to Reuters<\/a>.
